New Delhi August 27: The Lok Gathbandhan Party (LGP) today said that even after lapse of nearly one year Uttar Pradesh and Tamil Nadu governments have failed to establish special courts for the speedy disposal of criminal cases pending against tainted lawmakers (MPs. MLAs). The LGP said the Supreme Court had directed last year for the establishment of these courts but these two states have so far not properly complied with the instructions. The LGP also reiterated its demand for setting up of not just 12 such courts as decided by the NDA government but these courts should be at each divisional headquarters to help solve the menacing problem.

The spokesman of the party said here on Monday that in view of enormity of the problem and long pendency of these criminal cases all over the country there should be time-bound investigation and trial with the establishment of such courts at all divisional headquarters in the country. The spokesman said opening of just 12 courts for this highly important issue of national interest is absolutely inadequate and will not serve the purpose of quick trial.

The spokesman said the India Rejuvenation Initiative (IRI), a support group of Lok Gathbandhan Party, had filed the Public Interest Litigation (PIL) in 2011 in the apex court for fast-tracking criminal cases pending against MPs and MLAs. The spokesman said LGP committed to honesty, transparency and good governance, has long been fighting for weeding out the criminals from the politics, which has assumed alarming dimension in the country.

The spokesman said over the years Mafiosi and criminals have grabbed the space in public life through a mix of terror and political patronage and large number of them have succeeded in entering into Parliament and state assemblies. They have also succeeded in hoodwinking pending trial against them through money and muscle power, the spokesman said and added speedy cleansing of Indian politics from these nefarious elements has become imperative to take the country to the people-oriented and proper developmental path. The spokesman said the consequences of prevailing Mafiosi role in politics are visible in the increasing criminalisation of the process of governance with ministers, legislators, bureaucrats and unscrupulous businessmen combining to plunder public funds and prey on the public. The spokesman said the NDA government should also come clean on the issue as several lawmakers have been facing heinous charges of murder, rape and abduction and did not at all deserve to enter of pious portal parliament and assemblies.
