Mumbai: Prominent social worker and senior advocate of Bombay High Court Afzal Imam has lauded the role of Maharashtra Cabinet Minister Nawab Malik for withdrawal of controversial circular of Bombay Municipal Corporation (BMC) about funeral of bodies of all victims of Corona Virus irrespective of their religion. The circular in effect had thus stopped Muslims to perform burial of bodies of these victims. Afzal Imam praised Nawab Malik for criticising the trustees of burial grounds of Mumbai whose activities led to issuance of such a circular by the civic body.
Afzal Imam has also criticised the Maulvis and Zakrins for patronizing and supporting questionable activities of such trustees. Afzal Imam said the situation for the issuance of the highly objectionable BMC circular had arisen because a taxi driver took the body of his wife from one graveyard to other but none of them allowed her burial. Whereas the contrary examples of burial of Iran, Saudi Arabia, Turkey and other countries are available. Afzal Imam said illogical activities of Khojas about burial in their graveyards in Mumbai have crossed all limits where non-Khoja Muslims including Shias are not allowed to be buried. Afzal Imam said in the past also he had raised his voice against these activities of Khoja Trustees but the Shia Ulema-e-soo and other Zakrins whose vested interest are strongly attached to them turned hostile against him and the newspaper. Afzal Imam said now these materialistic ulema have become so daring that son of a prominent Shia Alim announced on TV channel that he had voted for BJP and his father had advocated for handing over of Babri Mosque land in Ayodhya to Hindus. But now when his name has appeared in posters he is backtracking. Afzal Imam said it means that take the mosque but leave our institutions was the motive. Afzal Imam said he never bothered and cared about anger of these Maulvis who are selling religion for their interest nor these trustees. Afzal Imam said it is now for Muslim in general and especially righteous ulema as to how to protect the religion from dirty clutches of these clerics and save community from further fall in the eyes of others.
