New Delhi, February 04: The Lok Gathbandhan Party (LGP) today condemned both central and West Bengal Governments for controversy over CBI investigation into Saradha chit fund scam which has threatened the federal structure of the country. The LGP said row over the questioning of Kolkata police commissioner Rajiv Kumar by the CBI and subsequent move by the state police to detain the CBI team is serious condemnable matter. The LGP has thus demanded intervention of the Supreme Court in the case.

The spokesman of the party said here on Monday that political intent in the CBI functioning is glaring as the agency has now fully become tool in the hands of ruling party at centre to harass the opposition. The spokesman said in view of highly partial and politically-motivated functioning the CBI has almost lost its credibility and the developments in the agency during the last few months has caused irreparable damage to its image. The spokesman said the accused in Saradha chit fund scam, irrespective of their status, should be penalised but there should not be pick and choose in the case, as some of the accused who have joined the West Bengal BJP are being spared. The spokesman said restoration of honesty, transparency and good governance in the agency’s working is must without which the trust of the people cannot be re-established in it. As of now the anti-corruption investigating agency has become a tool into the hands of ruling party for witching hunting of political opponents, the spokesman said and added prevailing situation has defeated the very purpose of the organisation.

The spokesman said development in Kolkata has indicated how central and state governments, instead of fighting corruption at the high places have been trying to brow beat each other by turning it into a political row and serving their vested interest in the run up to the general elections. The spokesman said while there should be Supreme Court-monitored investigation into chit fund case there is also urgent need to evolve effective mechanism for stopping political use of the CBI.
