Lok Gathbandhan Party questions bureaucrats’ report on lynching

New Delhi, September 1: The Lok Gathbandhan Party (LGP) today questioned the report of a panel of secretaries holding “social media” responsible for spate of mob lynching cases in the country. The LGP said instead of going into root causes of problem and point out the larger rot, the bureaucrats have found a convenient bugbear- social media, to fulfil the task of studying the problem and submit a report to Group of Ministers.

The spokesman of the party said here on Saturday that blaming social media only for hate-mongering and violence is aimed at protecting all those communal and casteiest forces which are directly or indirectly responsible for the prevailing situation in the country during the last few years. The spokesman said social media has no doubt become a platform to run malicious content in cyberspace, but the basic problem lies with those spreading and protecting it for political reasons. The spokesman said instead of curbing the social media, which has of late become major tool to expose high and mighty corrupt and dishonest people, efforts should be made to amend the communal and hate-filled political narratives in view of 2019 Lok Sabha elections. Pointing out that social media has expanded worldwide over the years but nowhere else such problem has come up as in India. The spokesman thus said weak policing, growing law and order, jaundiced governance and highly communal overtone of the ruling political set up are more responsible for lynching and other type of such violence than the cyber activities. The spokesman said secretaries have tried to pass the buck on other than finding the ills afflicting the system itself.

The spokesman said there is no dearth of laws to tackle the menace but the lack of political will has completely hampered positive action for restoration of peace and normalcy. What “social media” can do when a union minister himself garlands lynching accused for vote bank politics, the spokesman said and added scores of lynching cases by cow vigilantes during the last four years are result of such political mindset in ruling class in the country. The spokesman said the secretaries have failed to admit in the report that it is upsurge of politically-backed communal forces leading to this situation and not social media which is being grossly misused by vested interest. The spokesman said instead of curbing social media excise hate from politics and punish those fanning hate.
