New Delhi, October 12: The Lok Gathbandhan Party (LGP) today welcomed the directives of Chief Justice of India (CJI) Justice Ranjan Gogoi to High Courts about clearing the huge backlog of pending cases and measures for elimination of corruption. The LGP said the two issues are of immense importance for the judiciary and corrective measures as enumerated by the CJI would help in solving the problems.
The spokesman of the party said here on Friday backlog has assumed serious dimension with 4.3 million cases pending in 42 high courts in country and 56000 cases in the Supreme Court. The spokesman said of late there have been several controversies including the appointments of judges to higher judiciary which required to be settled for the restoration of effective working in the system. The spokesman said that media report indicated that CJI has asked the Chief Justices of high courts to not hesitate from withdrawing work from judges under cloud. It would certainly send a right message to lower judiciary also, said the spokesman said and added judicial system of the country should be strengthened as people still have full faith in it.
The spokesman said that in order to maintain the credibility of the judiciary there is need for full transparency in its functioning. The spokesman said that recently a tussle had broken between the executive and judiciary and there appeared to be deliberate efforts to tarnish the image of judiciary by politically vested interest. The spokesman that in view of enormity of the problem and long pendency of the cases all over the country there should be time-bound proceeding for the speedy disposal of the cases. The spokesman said it is the responsibility of all honest stakeholders in the system to help in restoring transparency and remove any type of lingering suspicion. The spokesman said the executive and judiciary should work together to evolve a joint mechanism for the smooth and transparent functioning.
