Black money has imperilled Indian democracy: Lok Gathbandhan Party

Urban Mirror Correspondent

New Delhi, July 23: Even as a debate has ensued in media over the rising cost of election in India, the Lok Gathbandhan Party (LGP) today said it has endangered the whole democratic process because of massive flow of black money into the electoral system. The LGP said with ill-gotten money flowing into the politics, the share of crorepatis winning election has gone up from 30% in 2004 to 82% in 2014.

The spokesman of the party said here on Monday that while debating over political finances there is urgent need for complete ban on funding by corporate houses. The spokesman said the enormity of the problem is not at “mezzanine level” as is being pointed out but has assumed cancerous dimension. With Indian politics operating like another sector of economy the spokesman said it is largely through black money. The spokesman said private sector funding is not without vested interested which has finally corrupted the whole political-administrative system in the country. Expressing concern over the rising cost of democracy, the spokesman said its broader adverse impact on administration and governance has caused massive corruption, hence there is need for ban on all types of small or big political funding with strict monitoring and the system should work through self-financing, if the candidate in the fray can afford it. The spokesman said the system introduced through electoral bonds will also not serve the purpose and stop inflow of black money in politics.

The spokesman said that there are large numbers of complaints against various political parties for amassing huge donations. The spokesman said political parties have unfortunately become one of the major conduits of money laundering for which strict legal action is urgently required to clean the system. The spokesman said without political vendetta and prejudice the law enforcing agencies should undertake legal process against the parties which have resorted to this illegal practice.  The spokesman said corporate houses have evolved dubious means for money laundering and tax evasion in which large number of political parties are also playing significant role. The LGP said with flow of massive black money in politics, the NDA government’s claim of fighting corruption is absolutely meaningless. The spokesman said the LGP, dedicated to honesty and transparency in public life, has been fighting for the eradication of the use of huge money in politics without which the concept of good governance is far-fetched.
