Lucknow, November 30: The Log Party today assailed the BJP government in UP for failing to control rampant corruption in distribution of mid-day meal to children in government schools. The party said that after “salt-roti” distribution to children in a school in Mirzapur few months ago, a scandal about the distribution of highly adulterated milk has been unearthed in a school in Sonebhadra.
The spokesman of the party said here on Saturday that one litre of milk was being mixed in a bucket of water for distribution among 81 school children which amply indicated the level of worst corruption in the scheme meant for poor school-going children. Similarly, in Mirzapur, children were being provided “roti and salt” instead of prescribed food. The spokesman said the corruption in the scheme has assumed serious dimension with the involvement of senior government officers. The spokesman said it cannot be handywork of just lower level official functionaries.
The spokesman said recently Union Government told the Lok Sabha that UP tops the chart of corruption in Mid-day-meal (MDM) scheme with 14 cases during the last three years. The spokesman said this is just tip of iceberg, as the situation is worst at the ground level. The spokesman said that mid-day meal is served to around 1.59 crore students every day which is the highest in the country. The spokesman said the UP BJP government has been making tall claims about the elimination of corruption but in fact a people are being just misled to serve the vested interest of the ruling party. The spokesman said there is rampant corruption under the nose of the BJP government.
The spokesman said while there is no control in rising crime graph, the corruption in every department has gone up at fast pace. The spokesman said recent exposure of scandal in PDS, PF, education, and homeguards and now in MDM has indicated the prevailing situation in the state.
