New Delhi, July 9: The Lok Gathbandhan Party (LGP) today criticised the union ministers for giving legitimacy to lynching mob by welcoming them or visiting some others in jails in Jharkhand and Bihar. The LGP said after union minister Jayant Sinha felicitated cow vigilantes convicted of killing a meat trader in Jharkhand an other minister Giriraj Singh visited Nawada jail in Bihar to meet the Bajrang Dal and VHP leaders accused to fanning communal passion in the state and convicted a riot case.

The spokesman of the LGP said here on Monday that with 2019 Lok Sabha election fast approaching BJP leaders have stepped up their communal overtones to appease the rabid communal elements responsible for creating law and order problem in various parts of the country.  Condemning the prevailing atmosphere of intolerance, the spokesman said killings by cow vigilantes and activities of other communal forces have created a serious situation in the country.

The spokesman said that state governments buckling under pressure of fringe elements have failed to maintain law and order situation. The spokesman said this is in fact diversionary tactics to deflect the attention of the people from real developmental issues and rampant corruption in the system. The spokesman said from demolition and vandalism of statues of various party icons to lynching of people in several states indicated that intolerance has assumed menacing dimension, which could threaten the democracy and destroy social fabrics. The spokesman said that opposition up to the level of life threats, violence and other disruption should be strongly denounced. The spokesman said this amply demonstrated sheer politicking by all those forces which have always thrived on intolerance and intimidation.

The spokesman said prevailing hostile and prejudiced atmosphere in the country during the last few years, which has assumed menacing proportion in BJP-ruled states, has tarnished the democratic image of the country and for political reasons, fanatical forces inimical to free speech, art and culture are being propped up by vested interest. The spokesman said cow vigilantes rampant in several parts of the country are getting support from some state governments, which does not augur well for the long-held democratic values of the country.  The LGP has thus called upon the peaceful and freedom loving- people to counter these forces for the larger interest of the country, as there are many more pressing and essential issues which deserved attention and solution.
