Lucknow, February 26: The Log Party today expressed deep concern over the outbreak of communal violence in Delhi following protest rallies between pro and anti-CAA people in North-East Delhi. The Log Party also criticised the Delhi police, directly under control of the central government for utterly failing to control rioting mob.
The spokesman of the Log Party, headed by former Secretary Government of India Vijay Shankar Pandey said here on Wednesday that the police failure in assessing the prevailing situation over the week reflected its lackadaisical functioning. The spokesman said appearance of some videos on social media also pointed to partisan conduct by the police. The spokesman said blame is also directly on Union Home Ministry. The spokesman said it is unfortunate that 13 people, including one constable lost their lives as riots, arson and stone-pelting continued for the last several days. The spokesman recalled that there were communal riots in Trilokpuri in 2014, but there had been no casualties and it was effectively controlled before it spun out of control. However, this time the situation has assumed menacing dimension for political reasons, the spokesman said, adding Delhi needed better policing and law enforcement. The spokesman said simmering tension is brewing between pro and anti CAA groups in Delhi during the last more than one month because of on-going peaceful movement by women against the centre’s discriminatory law, but the police either failed to gauge the mood or looked other way for political reasons.
The spokesman said that the situation has been worsened by the highly objectionable statements of some BJP leaders, who started pouring venom during Delhi election and continued to do so. The spokesman said the NDA government’s repeated assurance on CAA-NPR-NRC has not worked because of lack of trust among the people and contradicting voices emerging from among the BJP leaders and ministers. The spokesman said while it is also aimed distracting attention of the people from unprecedented economic slowdown, the BJP’s ideological position cannot also be ignored, which has caused consternation in the minority. The Log Party said instead of casting the anti-CAA protestors as “enemy” the NDA government should open dialogue with them and come out with proper legal framework to protect their rights.
