New Delhi, June 6: The Lok Gathbandhan Party (LGP) today said that in the absence of honesty, transparency and clean governance, the whole exercise of clean environment is far-fetched. The LGP said the NDA government’s much publicised “Swacha Bharat” drive has thus failed to yield positive results because of massive seepage in funds being spent on the project. The LGP said Lucknow and Varanasi continue to be dirtiest in the absence of transparency in the execution of the project.

The spokesman of the party said here on Wednesday that only clean governance could ensure clean environment as years to lacklustre planning, innumerable programmes huge funds, multifarious schemes, huge departments to implement them notwithstanding, even the most basics of development have not been put into place. The spokesman said basic sanitation, supply of potable water, sewerage, regular electricity are lacking even in advanced coveted VIP cities. The spokesman said that “Swach Bharat” will not come about by sloganeering alone, as it requires honest, sincere committed governance. These efforts have to stem from moral courage. The spokesman said the ethical drive has been absent. “Smart cities are a necessary corollary. They cannot grow in the barrenness of apathetic conventional planning  in which the insidious builder/official nexus prevails and subsumes all”, the spokesman said.   

The spokesman said the poor people are continuously fed with rhetoric of urban renaissance- a Smart City, amenities like clean drinking water, sanitation, toilets, infrastructure etc. But when will this toxicity of false pledges, fake promises, dishonest avowals and misleading projections polluting our national environment end?

The spokesman said the politicians ritually talk about worsening pollution causing health hazards but what about the deleterious effects of tainted governance ? What  is being done by any political party to combat the lethal consequences of  unprincipled, grabbing power at any cost politics? Mafia dons, jailbirds, bootleggers, convicts, scamsters  and every type of criminal continue to exercise predominant influence in governance. And the people continue to languish in the ranks of the backward devoid of the basics of existence.
