New Delhi, October 29: The Lok Gathbandhan Party (LGP) today criticised the Bihar government for surreptitiously helping the main accused Brajesh Thakur in Muzaffarpur shelter home rape cases. The LGP said the recent status report of CBI on which the Supreme Court has expressed shock is direct indictment of Nitish Kumar government which has been making tall claims about good governance in the state.
The spokesman of the LGP said here on Monday that the apex court’s comment on the report as “horrible, scary and terrible†is a matter of serious concern and the court has rightly ordered the transfer of the accused Thakur outside the state for fair investigation and trial. Pointing out that image of the chief minister Nitish Kumar, an ally of BJP, lies in tatters as the governance over the years has been badly affected. The spokesman said under the prevailing law and order situation the JD(U)-BJP government can no longer mislead the people and it would certainly reflect in 2019 Lok Sabha elections. The spokesman said already allies in Bihar are feeling disenchanted with the NDA government as over the years good governance, honesty and transparency has been a major casualty in the state. The spokesman said Muzaffarpur shelter home rape cases with the involvement of powerful people including a former minister Manju Verma’s absconding husband Chandrashekhar Verma had indicated about utter lack of women safety in the state.
The spokesman said the apex court has already observed that “serious allegations are made against Thakur by the CBI and we have also noted the influence wielded by him. In view of the serious nature of allegations made against him, it is not appropriate in continuing his custody in central jail in Bhagalpur or in any other jail in Bihar. Issue notice as to why his custody may not be transferred to another state.†The case is slated for hearing tomorrow. The spokesman said as per the CBI report a mobile phone was recovered from Thakur and that he had communicated with 40 people from inside the prison. Also, when two CBI officers went to question him in jail, Thakur fought with the jail superintendent on letting them in
