New Delhi, March 07: The Lok Gathbandhan Party (LGP) today demanded Supreme Court-monitored investigation into controversial Rafale Jet fighter deal which the NDA government has been desperately trying to hide from the public gaze. The LGP said central government plea in the apex court that some documents of the deal were stolen from Ministry of Defence and leaked to the media and hence should not be relied upon by the court doesnot hold water.
The spokesman of the party said here on Thursday that NDA government move to take action against whistle-blower under hackneyed British-era Official Secret Act in this matter would not serve the purpose of the justice. The spokesman said it is time to take a judicial look at this Act also so that the government could not resort to harass any whistle-blower. The spokesman said instead of coming clean on the Rafale deal issue the NDA government has been trying to divert the matter by such tactics and the leaked documents which last month appeared in the media had given ample indication about the government making effort to escape judicial scrutiny. The spokesman said the NDA government argument that the court should not take notice of “stolen†documents in the case is ridiculous as disappearance of these papers from the ministry and irregularities committed in the deal two different issues and are not inter-related and should be dealt with separately. The spokesman said in past on several occasions documents were leaked and the court had taken their notice and then no secret act was invoked. Pointing out that the Rafale deal is getting murkier every day with the NDA government making effort to shield crony capitalist the spokesman said the people in the larger interest of national security, honesty and transparency have all the right to know facts in deal which is shrouding in mystery. The spokesman said since the needle of suspicion is surrounding around the Prime Minister Narendra Modi with monetary benefits at the huge cost of government exchequer to a corporate house in the deal, the apex court should order probe into the matter. The spokesman said this is not a political issue but directly connected with massive corruption at high places.
