New Delhi, December 20: The Lok Gathbandhan Party (LGP) today expressed deep anguish over prevailing agrarian crisis in the country and criticised the NDA government utter failure in finding a lasting solution during the last nearly five years. The LGP said except lip services and tokenism the central government has hardly done anything which could alleviate the suffering of farm sector.
The spokesman of the LGP, headed by former Secretary Government of India Vijay Shankar Pandey who will contest 2019 Lok Sabha elections from Faizabad-Ayodhya parliamentary seat, said now in view of general election the NDA government has once again planned an inter-ministerial review to assess the rural sector problems, especially distress sale of farm product despite minimum support prices. The spokesman said the NDA government’s much hyped announcement to double the income of farmers has failed to take off. After the BJP rout in five assembly elections, there is belated realization about revision in the rural wages under NREGS, the spokesman said and added finding ways to ensure MSPs to farmers. The spokesman said already an spree of loan waiving of farmers by several states has failed to yield positive result, as this appears to be an unending process and now there are moves to waive off electricity bills of farmers in BJP-ruled states.
The spokesman said the NDA government except tall promises has done nothing to alleviate the sufferings of the farmers. Demanding overhauling of present agriculture policy to solve the problems of farmers, the spokesman said mere announcements without adequate ground framework the situation will not be resolved.
The spokesman prevailing farmers’ unrest is the result of years of governmental negligence towards their problems and following only quick fix solution to help them out of crisis temporarily. The spokesman said that neither the past nor the present central government ever took a holistic view of solution to their distress. The party said farmers are most vulnerable community depending on various natural and man-made forces for sustenance. While over the years the input cost of the farm produce has drastically gone up, there has not been matching increase in sale prices which has forced the community into debt. The spokesman said in the other sector market players are able to fix the prices of their production, but the farmers are always dependent on the government remunerative prices which are mismatch.
